Keynote: Are we losing our (qualitative) minds?
Possibilities for critical thinking, reflexivity and interpretation in GenAI-assisted thematic analysis
Since Generative AI tools harnessing the capabilities of Large Language Models have been available for qualitative analysis tasks, much methodological debate has focused on whether and how they can be used for thematic analysis. Methodological resistance includes assertions that the human capabilities of critical thinking, reflexivity and interpretation that are core to analytic practice cannot be simulated by machines. But are those concerns legitimate? Using the frame of technological determinism versus instrumentalism, we explore whether GenAI tools, as they are implemented within MAXQDA, replace human analytic practice or can be used to assist the methodologically appropriate enactment of thematic analysis tasks.

New Guide on MAXQDA AI Assist
Join us as Dr. Stefan Rädiker draws from his new MAXQDA Press guide to demonstrate how to use and steer MAXQDA’s AI Assistant with precision and purpose. He will walk through the core applications of AI in qualitative research: starting with an overview of MAXQDA’s AI features, then showing how to craft effective instructions for AI Summaries, design clear and reliable code definitions for AI Coding, and formulate practical prompts for the AI Chat. The session will also address critical considerations around Data Privacy and Documentation — ensuring that AI use remains ethical, transparent, and fully traceable in your research workflow.

The Basics of MAXQDA
For those who are new to MAXQDA, this will be a quick demonstration of the basic routines and functions. It will help you to understand the other sessions in the conference. I will show you how to start a new project, import data into it, create and apply codes in several ways (for inductive or deductive approaches), store demographic data about cases, and start to extract selected data using all of those elements.

Visual Tools in MAXQDA
In this intermediate workshop, we will explore how MAXQDA’s visualization tools open new ways to see and communicate your data, analysis, and findings. Through an overview of the visualization tools, we will brainstorm how these tools provide alternative perspectives and can be integrated into qualitative data analysis and reports. Prior MAXQDA experience is helpful but not required.

Mixed Methods Research with MAXQDA
This session is focused on how to use MAXQDA in mixed method research, which involves the collection and analysis of qualitative and quantitative data and their integration. MAXQDA has numerous features to support mixed methods research. We will focus on the: a) Questions-Themes–Theories worksheet, b) adding variables, c) crosstabs, d) segment matrix, and e) joint displays. The instructor will demonstrate each feature using MAXQDA with research datasets.

Analyzing Focus Group Data
Learn to analyze focus group data using MAXQDA through 7 simple steps. This demonstration covers essential features for managing group dynamics, from data cleaning and upload through coding, theme development, and visual representation. See how MAXQDA streamlines your analytical journey from transcripts to insights.
