Tip: If you export an empty dictionary first, you will get excact the Excel table you need for the import.
Each search word is written in a single row. In the column “Category” you have to write the category to which the search word belongs. You can use the backslash “\” to create subcategories. The column “Search item” contains the search string and you can use the other columns to set the options for each search word. A “1” stands for “yes”, a “0” for “no”.
Tipp: To create a Backslash on a Mac use the shortcut Alt+Shift+7.
To import the dictionary, click on the icon Add dictionary
. MAXDictio will follow these rules
while importing the file:
q The sequence order of columns is irrelevant.
q The sequence order of the rows defines the sequence order of the categories in the tree view.
q If one category is activated anywhere in the import file, it will be activated.
q If the column “Category activated” or “Search Iteam activated” is missing, the search word and the category will be set to “switched on.”
q All other values than “1” or missing values in a parameter column are interpreted as “0.”
q If a word or category already exists in the dictionary it will be ignored.
q Categories without a Search Item are created without any Search Item.
If you load a dictionary by using the button Add dictionary, MAXQDA will add all categories and search items that doesn’t exist and will ignore all existing ones.
